A little
about my work.

I am a creative thinker, a multi-disciplinary research practitioner and a social behaviour change specialist with over nine years of experience working in the social impact sector. I take a mixed-methods approach to my practice, overlaying elements of qualitative research, behavioural science theory and social behavioural change communications (SBCC) over a foundational HCD (Human Centred Design) approach.

Taking an integrated approach to my practice helps me form a robust and nuanced understanding of the contexts and decision-making processes that affect human behaviour, and using this to inform solutions that address social impact challenges.

My portfolio spans several sectors, including health, nutrition, digital financial services and rural livelihoods, where I have supported the design of products, systems, and services across East, West, and Southern Africa as well as South Asia.

My undergraduate studies were great, but some of the best lessons came from outside the classrooms, through exposure to diverse people, cultures, and ways of life.

My time studying media was a joy because it was both creative and tactile. Clinical psychology, which was a large part of my degree, did not excite me as much as I thought it would, though I appreciated the foundation it provided.

Things changed when I was introduced to societal psychology during my final year of undergraduate studies- I knew that this was what I wanted to do, learn about behaviour in the context of societies and communities.

I spent the early part of my career working with talented teams on exciting problems to trailblaze the study of behavioural science in the global south. Even with my appreciation for rigour, I knew creativity was still a missing piece in my practice.

I spent three and a half incredibly fulfilling years working in a behavioural economics firm in Nairobi, Kenya. My qualitative skills were essential for the initial understanding phase, laying the groundwork before any behavioural diagnoses or interventions could be developed.

This experience truly honed my appreciation for data, rigour and integrated methodology. It showed me that even though I focused on qualitative research, numbers were equally important for making our findings and approaches more robust. Yet, my creative inclinations felt like something was missing from my research practice.

We start in my high school days, very young and standing on the edge of some big educational and career decisions.

Being creatively inclined has always been a part of me, so I naturally chose art as one of my O and A-level subjects. I was also lucky enough to have psychology as an A-level subject as an option, which sparked my curiosity to learn more about behaviour.

When it came to university, I wasn't entirely sure about an art-focused degree, so I opted for a dual honours Bachelor's, combining media to satisfy my creative side with psychology as my "main" area of study.

I had an incredibly fulfilling educational experience in a diverse and exciting city, a year that felt far too short.

I continued my studies in social psychology, focusing on behaviour within health interventions, particularly HIV prevention. My work involved dissecting the "whys" and "hows" of what made some interventions succeed and others fail.

My curiousity led me to HCD, where I have spent the last six years exploring and  appreciating dynamic storytelling, the value of ambiguity, and the profound power of human connection in driving better outcomes everywhere, whether in corporate settings or rural communities.

I wanted to understand how to be more creative in my methods, especially in the way I engaged people and told their stories. That's how I discovered Human-Centred Design (HCD). I've spent six years working in this field, primarily as a design researcher.

It has been and continues to be an incredibly fulfilling and exciting journey, working with truly talented people and realising there's no limit to the creative applications of HCD—from research and strategy to workshopping, brainstorming, event design, and beyond. I continue to be excited and impressed by its power and potential.

What does the future hold?

At the moment, I am particularly excited about other creative avenues- designing play-based learning interventions and curating grant programming. While these are keen interest areas, I remain open to various pathways.
